Information About Gareth - Horley teacher

Personal Description:

A professional classical guitarist , I studied with John Duarte in London before embarking on a career as a player.
I am currently doing postgraduate study at Christ Church Canterbury, working in the Music Department on the Spanish and Portugese Diaspora and the effect on 20th century Latin American guitar music. I work there with Professor Jeff Alexander, and outstanding guitarist across all styles and genres.

Tutoring Experience:

Extensive and wide ranging experience as a guitar teacher and Director of Music, I have taught in the UK and abroad over 35 years.
I teach to grade examinations as a good guide to progress and prepare students for entrance examinations as well as scholarships.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is a firm belief that everyone has a musical “ voice” inside, and that we are attracted to the instrument that best expresses our character and emotions. I start at the level of the learner and build reading music alongside musicality and expression. Duets, and practical exercises, help to develop an enjoyable repertiore
