Personal Description:
My name is Gareth and I am a secondary school Music teacher and I teach electric, acoustic, classical and bass guitar lessons in the evenings. I have been playing guitar since I was 9 when my parents bought me my first classical guitar. Since then, I have played electric guitar and bass guitar in bands and use my guitar daily in the classroom and accompanying performances at school.
Tutoring Experience:
I first started teaching guitar in 2007. I graduated with a First Class Honours degree from Brighton University in Creative Music Production in 2015 and qualified as a secondary school Music Teacher at Birmingham City University the following year. I have worked as a Music Teacher ever since, spending over 2 years as Head of Department in a large comprehensive school. I have entered countless students in to graded examinations (Trinity and RSL). I am DBS checked and have worked with students of all ages (5 years old up to adult learners), across a wide range of styles and abilities (beginners to Grade 8).
Tutoring Approach:
Ultimately, people start playing an instrument because they think they will enjoy it. Playing an instrument allows the learner to develop their creativity, discipline and is mentally stimulating, always providing something to work on and the opportunity to improve. I aim to make all my lessons engaging, fun and focused, targeting exactly what each student needs to do to take them to the next level. I love playing guitar and I love working with other musicians, whatever their age, ability or goals. Please let me know if you are interested in lessons!
