Personal Description:

Hello, my name is Freya. I have studied singing to degree level and have had lessons in both musical theatre and classical styles of singing from a young age. My future plans are to continue to pursue a professional career in classical opera singing and also give something back through teaching.

I am a current Choral Scholar 2017 - 2018 at St Martin-in-the-fields, London and I sing with their professional group 'The Voices' for various services, recitals, and concerts. I also regularly sing with other choirs such as Philharmonia Chorus, Ex Ore Equi, Scherzo, Kantos, Icosa and more. This summer I attended Dartington Festival in Devon for Masterclasses with Opera singer Felicity Lott and also St Endellion Festival in Cornwall to perform with their professional choir. At the age of 11, I performed a solo role on the West End in Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'The Woman in White'.

I also enjoy directing, having been assistant director for the World Premiere of a new opera, Mysterious 44, and I’ve also directed productions of Handel’s Acis and Galatea and Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado.

I am excited to pursue a professional career in music and teaching.

Tutoring Experience:

I have experience teaching students both individually and in a group setting in musical theatre and classical styles of singing.

I currently give private singing lessons to a number of students at The Misbourne School years 7 - 11. I teach students weekly and work with them to improve vocal technique and explore various repertoire.

I am also a musical theatre vocal coach at Sargent & Plester School of Dance. I coach three groups of students age 5 - 18 and prepare them on vocal technique, performance and musical theatre songs and shows.

Last year I taught Music to years 3 - 6 in a London Primary School. I used the Kodaly method which gives children of a young age an incredible musical foundation. They learn to pitch accurately, improvise, perform solo/ in groups, improve their musical memory, keep a beat and much more.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach musical theatre and classical styles of singing from beginner and up and can prepare students for examination. I have a lot of knowledge of vocal technique and health which is something I pass on in my teaching. I also use movement and muscle relaxation to focus breathing. My aim as a singing teacher is to improve a pupil’s sound and confidence in a relaxed and non-judgmental environment.
