She completed the exam series with a distinction in Grade 8, and was invited to sing at Cadogan Hall for the 120th anniversary of the ABRSM’s foundation. She trained in solo performance in masterclasses with Mary King and Sarah Fox, and has enjoyed participating in courses specialising in Opera and Song, focussing on aspects of vocal technique and dramatic performance. She brought these skills back to university when leading peer workshops for vocal performance under her role as head of development for Royal Holloway’s Opera Society.

Fran has delighted in performing in shows such as Fiddler on the Roof, Bittersweet, Dido and Aneas, The Mikado and The Pirates of Penzance. Her favourite role to date is Mrs Lovett, in the Royal Borough Youth Opera’s performance of Sweeney Todd, where she could fling pastry around the set and make meat pies of her fellow actors.
Fran has sat on the panel to critique auditions for Royal Holloway’s Savoy Opera Society, and for the university’s Choral Scholarship auditions. She has enjoyed both on-screen acting, and singing for the audio recording for Delirium, the finale of a feature film trilogy by Scenario Films. Fran has taught in institutions and privately across all age ranges. Her youngest student is 8, and her eldest is 70! Her infectious passion for music inspires and encourages beginners and she guides more advanced musicians in honing their technique. Fran has taught many first-timers for both piano and singing, and seeing new pupils grow in confidence and ability in just a few lessons is a wonderful part of her role.
Fran has a life-long passion for music, and a strong teaching ethic to nurture her pupils’ general musicianship, as well as their vocal technique. She is a flexible teacher and tailors lessons to fit the individual's personal goals. Whether you would like to focus on vocal strength, solo singing, ensemble singing, confidence, breath control, sight-singing, or all of the above, Fran will happily accommodate. Fran will always endeavour to help you choose repertoire that is right for your voice, musical experience and personal taste.
