Personal Description:
I’m a professional trumpet player based in Glasgow and have been playing and teaching in a this capacity since I was 18 years old. I have extensive experience in many varied musical environments from solo, commercial as well as small/large group jazz to large scale orchestra and musical theatre. I have made a personal and professional commitment to always approach my music with passion, musicality, accuracy and the tenacity to execute whatever is required of me without compromise.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught private students for the last 15 years from ages 5 to 88 at all levels from ABRSM grade 1 to 8 (and beyond) I also provide consultations for fellow professional players and have helped many colleagues who have come across problems with their playing. Performance anxiety and positive visualisation techniques are a specialty of which I have written short pieces for various online journals.
I’ve worked with Renfrewshire Council by teaching a big band made up with children from across all schools in Renfrewshire.
Tutoring Approach:
The transfer of knowledge is a personal passion of mine, I believe that only by being open and accessible with knowledge, can we attain higher standards in musical education. I feel strongly that all students should have the inclusive right to learn a musical instrument as part of their general education. I’m highly conversant with most brass instruments and the techniques required to play them. I have extensive experience across the board in music from classical repertoire, brass bands, small and large group ensembles all the way through to modern music theory, jazz theory, harmony and improvisation as well as jazz and popular music history particularly relating to brass instruments.
