Personal Description:

I play regularly - I am principal sax with an award winning concert band, I play in a quartet which has regular engagements such as the annual Mayormaking ceremony, and I also play solo gigs with backing tracks. I enjoy playing a variety of musical styles, and this is reflected in the material I use for teaching.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been a successful private teacher since 2000. I teach pupils who wish to play for fun, some with problems- such as a child with asperger's, or those who wish to take exams (ABRSM only). I teach theory as well, for those studying for Associated Board. A number of my pupils have taken GSCE and A/S level music and I have helped them prepare for the practical element of the exam. Age is not an issue - I am happy to teach adults as well as children.

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching should always be tailored to the needs of the individual. Everyone progresses at a different rate and people understand things in different ways. The ultimate goal has to be producing a beautiful sound that people want to listen to, but making music should always be fun; scales are important but mastering a piece gives a greater sense of satisfaction!
