Personal Description:
I am a classically trained violinist from Ireland, now currently living in Glasgow and have been playing violin for over 20 years. I graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music in 2017 receiving a BMus(Hons) and since then have been performing regularly with orchestras across the Uk and Ireland as a freelance violinist including the Ulster Orchestra, RTE Concert Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, Camerata Ireland, Wexford Festival Opera and Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
I have now just recently relocated to Glasgow after taking up employment with the Scottish Opera Orchestra, where I play as Tutti Violin 1.
Tutoring Experience:
I previously taught violin in private lessons ranging from beginner to advanced levels, and I have prepared students for ABRSM violin grades with high level results. I am also experienced in teaching in group settings to children of a younger age at beginner levels, so I am confident in managing a number of students and making it a fun and inspiring learning experience. I am available to teach up to advanced/diploma levels and to teach people of all ages.
The mixture of teaching and performing professionally provides me with an added versatility when it comes to teaching and allows me to further develop my musicianship skills and as a result, to obtain more information that I can pass on to students. I am very keen to establish a similar teaching base here and to meet students who are enthusiastic about learning music, be it purely for fun or with the aim of working towards graded examinations. I want to inspire students so that they can find something they enjoy, something that challenges them and something that cultivates their creativity.
Tutoring Approach:
My goal for teaching is to provide lessons for students with whatever interests them most, be it learning simply for leisure or for examinations. I like to offer tailored violin lessons that focus on building technique, musicality and confidence and my lessons are customised in order to cater to different learning styles and goals, whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your skills. I am passionate about teaching and I have over 10 years of experience in working with students of all ages and levels to help them reach their musical goals. I am comfortable with adjusting my teaching methods in order to cater for the student's specific needs, and to provide them with the learning experience that they are most passionate about.
