Personal Description:

I hold a first class BMus (Hons) degree from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. I began teaching around my studies in 2009 and have been teaching piano full time since 2018. I'm originally from Carmarthen and have just moved back to Wales from Birmingham where I had a fully booked timetable of private students.

I have a wide range of performance experience across different genres and settings. I have been a member of many orchestras and wind bands, including the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Wales. I have also played with big bands, contemporary music groups and a ska band. I have performed at concert halls, gigged in pubs, accompanied choirs in churches and had music I composed performed by professional ensembles.

Tutoring Experience:

I have experience of teaching people from age 5 all the way up to 80+, from beginner up to post grade 8 level. I also offer music theory tuition, almost all of my students have passed their grade 5 theory exams with distinction.

In addition to my private students I have taught at The Birmingham Music School, The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Brynhyfryd Music Teaching Studios and Broadway Academy.

Tutoring Approach:

I’m flexible in my approach to teaching, as I know everyone has different needs, interests and goals. I aim to find the best way to help my students achieve success and enjoy learning music.

My teaching experience and approach ranges from:

Primary ages children
I strive to make learning the piano fun and hope to kindle a lifelong hobby or passion in the children I teach. I help discover and nurture their particular talents and strengths as well as giving them a rounded introduction to all aspect of music making.

Secondary age children/young people
I’m happy to take on complete beginners or anyone with prior experience. Teenagers can often make very fast progress when learning the piano, so it’s never too late to start. I can work with whatever suits the student, whether that’s working towards exams or just a pleasant hobby to help forget some school stress.

Adult learners
I can be very flexible with whatever or however you’d like to learn. Feel free to get in touch for a chat to see if this is right for you.

Exam preparation
My students have a 100% pass rate, with many achieving a merit or distinction. I can help students to thoroughly prepare for all aspects of exams, including prepared pieces, sight-reading, aural questions and scales. I incorporate all of these aspects into lessons from the beginning so that no element catches students out. I also teach music theory and have entered many students for their grade 5 theory exams.
