This is how 2 referees rated Elliot:
Head of drum kit at the Royal Welsh College Of Music & Drama and the University Of South Wales. For me, I play drums for the sheer joy. It’s fun and it’s exciting. Take the opportunity to study with a qualified, experienced, conservatoire trained professional musician. I offer first class resources and a welcoming, supportive, comfortable atmosphere within which to learn.
In the quest to promote the language of music, I have been asked to present my ideas at various drum clinics, opening up for some of the worlds best drummers. Some of which include: Steve Smith (Journey), Carl Palmer (Emerson, Lake & Palmer), Ian Thomas (Seal, Eric Clapton), Chad Smith (RHCP), Terry Bozzio and Jo Jo Mayer.
I have performed in plethora of musical situations and genres, working with the likes of UK number 1 selling artist Sian Evans (formally know as Kosheen). Similarly, I have recorded BBC wildlife documentaries from Michael Portillo’s ‘Portillo goes wild in Spain’, through to the Natural Worlds ‘Ella, a Meerkats tale’.
Slowly Rolling Camera is a project that I have been involved in for the last 8 years. We have performed internationally, supporting heavy weights such as the Robert Glasper Experiment, Maceo Parker and Chick Corea. Signed to Edition records, our 4th album ‘Where The Streets Lead’ came out this year. It features Stuart McCallum (Cinematic Orchestra), Chris Potter, Jasper Høiby (Phronesis), Mark Lockheart and Verneri Pohjola.
I have for several years been the drum kit tutor at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD). I teach one to one to both bachelors and masters degree students. I am also head of drums at the University of South Wales (USW), Cardiff University and Cardiff and Vale College, where I teach all the undergraduate BMus music students.
I have achieved the status of fellow in recognition of attainment against the UK Professional Standard Framework for teaching and learning support in higher education
I teach drum kit lessons at Mountain Ash Comprehensive School to BTEC, GCSE and A level students. As well as teaching drums and percussion, I also teach on a BTEC course in music technology.
I teach one to one lessons in Cardiff. The studio has some of the best teaching facilities found in South Wales. Lessons are for all ages and abilities, from beginner through to the advanced. Technique, ergonomics, reading and grades are all covered.
From the skills that I have built up through studying, teaching and playing professionally around the world, it has been my goal to bring about information technology (IT) into all areas my work. For example, the large majority of all my teaching, whether it as head lecturer for drum kit at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, my private work (which I have run as a business for over 15 years), or in the classroom, the use of computer technology has assisted greatly. Now all of my pupils/students are able to take away with them both written examples of work done, as well as audio examples (MP3’s), which recapitulate the lesson. These examples can then be stored and replayed from a computer and MP3 playing device.
