Personal Description:

I am a musician in the Cardiff area studying at masters level at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with Jonathan Burgess and John Hall. I am originally from Manchester and graduated from Durham University with a First-Class Honours degree in Music in 2018. During my undergraduate degree, I studied with Eilidh Gillespie and taught at the Sage Gateshead as a Flute Tutor on their Step-Up Strings Programme, one of the Young Musicians' Programmes, alongside members of the Royal Northern Sinfonia. After graduating, I worked at Wells Cathedral School as a Graduate Music Assistant and the schools’ Orchestra Manager and was taught by Sarah Newbold.

Alongside performing in chamber and larger orchestral ensembles, a huge passion of mine is teaching and outreach work. My ambition is to introduce children to classical music in primary education settings through the combination of music and movement.

Tutoring Experience:

I currently teach at Making Music, Changing Lives in Ely and for Gwent Music in South Wales. In my previous role as a Graduate Music Assistant at Wells Cathedral School I coached younger flute students on a weekly basis in order to help them build their ensemble skills to perform in termly concerts. I also conducted the Sinfonietta orchestra in weekly rehearsals and public performances in addition to teaching ABRSM theory and taking aural classes. Prior to this post, I was employed at the Sage, Gateshead on their Young Musicians Programme. Here, I prepared flute pupils of abilities up to ABRSM Grade 4 on an individual basis, to enable them to take their practical exams and improve their technique and musicianship. In this role, I also supported woodwind students in their orchestral and sectional rehearsals through coaching the section.

Tutoring Approach:

I am able to offer individual lessons tailored to your child's needs and work to not only give children the experience of practical exams but improve their musicianship and ensure they enjoy all that they do with their instrument. I also aim to help students develop an awareness of theory and harmony throughout instrumental lessons to provide more rounded tuition.
