Personal Description:

I am always delighted to hear from new students!

I enjoy music from the renaissance to the contemporary. Over the past years I have studied the flute with Victoria Green, Leora Alexander, Helen Wills, Ian McGee, Nicola King and baroque flautist Elizabeth Walker. I am currently working on the flute concertos of Mozart and Chaminade, sonatas of Handel, Bach, Hindemith, Poulenc, Prokofiev, Roussel’s Joueurs de flûte, solo works by **Contact Detail Removed**mann, Debussy, Varèse and many more. I have performed in the production of two Puccini operas, Gianni Schicchi and Suor Angelica, and a production Sondheim’s musical Into The Woods as principal flautist. I have also partaken in various master-classes with distinguished flautists including Marina Piccinini and Gareth Davies and have given public recitals in venues in Suffolk, London and Somerset.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching the flute, privately to students since 2006 and have led them through various ABRSM practical flute and music theory exams. My students have ranged from beginners to the more advanced, from young to older and from those who wish to learn the flute for academic purposes and those who wish to learn purely as a hobby without the pressure of graded exams.

Tutoring Approach:

The initial 'lesson' will be complimentary so that we can discuss what it is that you want from the lessons. If you already have a flute and/or music, do bring it along as we will have a listen to establish a starting point.

Music Theory:
Music theory is an essential part of development in any instrument/vocal study. Therefore, during the course of a lesson, my students will be exposed to different types of musical theory which will then be put into practice. I find this one of the most effective ways of teaching theory - putting the theory to practise or learning in context.
