Personal Description:

Recently awarded a distinction in my Masters degree in Music at the university of Manchester. The institution runs one of the leading music courses in the country. Particularly reputable for performance and composition, I had the great provalidge of being taught by Gavin Osbourne, flautist and composer in the ensemble Trio Atem. As well as having a lively academic department, the university also boasts England's largest student music society, where I has performed for some years in the baroque orchestra, symphony orchestra, chorus and wind band. Coming from a low income family I spent the early years of my childhood teaching myself the flute, Consequently, I started getting lesson a lot later than the average flautist and faced the great challenge of obtaining grade 8 on time for my course. My experience has taught me how to successfully approach the challenges of pursuing a career in music. I have a realistic vision of what can be achieved through dedication and perseverance. I encourage all forms of learning and respect the fact that everyone has their own pace, and rate of improvement. I believe in encouraging people to pursue their dreams, no matter how late they start or how long they take to get there.

Tutoring Experience:

9 years of experience as a private tutor in flute, recorder and piano as well as working at a teacher in a Montessori and Reggio-Emilio school, giving creative workshops and developing my own unique teaching methodology for educating children in their early years.

Tutoring Approach:

With a specialism in classical performance, I also have experience with many non western performance practices including klezmer, iranian, arabic, and sephardic traditions. My experience has taught me to encourage a range of learning techniques including learning by ear as a creative alternative to conventional notation, as it both stimulates musicality and technical advancement. My teaching methods are flexible and are suited to the individual learning approach of my pupils. Whether learning by ear, with notation or a combination of both, I appreciate that everyone has their own pace in achieving fluency in sight reading or technical performance and am supportive of this.
