Personal Description:

I'm an experienced, enthusiastic and patient teacher with over 10 years of teaching experience, from beginner level right up to advanced students. During lockdown, I have been teaching remotely over Zoom which I have found to be a very effective method of continuing piano lessons.

My teaching style encourages creativity and enjoyment of music and I ensure all my students gain a strong foundation of theory, note reading and rhythm. I'm a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and have performed at some of the UK’s top venues including: Hammersmith Apollo, Wembley Arena, Barbican, Southbank Centre and Union Chapel.

Tutoring Experience:

I have over 10 years of teaching experience, working from beginner level right up to advanced students. I have taught piano at a preparatory school in Central London since 2012, and also have experience teaching in secondary schools and privately.

I offer either hourly or half-hourly lesson slots.

"We have loved taking lessons from Mr. ! Lessons have been just as effective online as in person. Mr. is engaging, encouraging and kind to my two daughters, and as they are new piano students, he has done a fantastic job introducing a love for music that will last."

"We started piano lessons with Ed online during the corona lockdown, and he has made it work brilliantly on Zoom with splitting the screen so we can see both him and his hands playing the piano. He is very engaging in the way he interacts with pupils and makes it a lot of fun."

"Ed is a wonderful piano teacher. Our daughter thrives in his lessons and has gained a lot of confidence since she started. We are very impressed with her progress in playing the piano. Ed's teaching is rooted in both a deep love for music and profound knowledge that translates into a joyful atmosphere during the sessions. We would recommend Ed without any hesitation!"

"Ed has been providing piano lessons for our nine year old for a little under two years now. She started from absolute scratch and we couldn’t be more pleased with her progress. She’s built up confidence and a lovely feel for the joy of the piano, and we can see how very much at ease she is with him during her lessons. Throughout the pandemic period we have continued remo**Contact Detail Removed**ssons via zoom: Ed was quick to adapt and we’ve noticed remarkable progress even during this period. We’re incredibly grateful and are looking forward to continuing on with him."

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching style encourages creativity and expression whilst ensuring a strong foundation of theory, note reading and rhythm.

My lessons are varied, fast-paced, and above all, fun. I am a patient, supportive and enthusiastic teacher and I am passionate about helping my students reach their full potential.

Learning piano is about more than just playing pieces; it’s the best way to explore the foundations of theory, harmony, rhythm and improvisation. It helps students improve their concentration, coordination. confidence, reading and maths skills. and will set them up well to take up other instruments in the future or perhaps start creating their own music later on.

When teaching jazz and pop to more advanced students, I focus on applying concepts through a practical and goal-driven approach. For example, this could be learning the harmony of a jazz standard ready for a specific performance, or by developing a student’s ability to accompany a singer by learning to transpose a song to different keys. Learning to analyse the harmony and language in a jazz standard is an important part of a jazz musician’s skill-set, so I encourage a strong theoretical approach when learning new repertoire and styles.
