Personal Description:

I have been playing and performing music since I was 5 years old. I have been teaching it for most of the last decade. Music is what I wake up thinking about and what I go to bed thinking about. I have a long history of helping all kinds of people, and it is this desire- fused with my love for the art form- that drives my passion for music teaching.

Tutoring Experience:

I can teach Music Theory for all grades. I have over 15 years experience playing guitar and over 20 years of experience playing saxophone. I am currently teaching guitar to two students, and also teach saxophone for all grades.

Although my grade 8 qualifications leave me open to advanced tutoring, I have had much experience teaching kids. Indeed, I visit two nurseries weekly to teach very young children, and have experience teaching up to 14. I am looking forward to teaching all levels.

Tutoring Approach:

Holistic. My approach to music teaching is the same as my approach to teaching anything: tailor the approach to the needs of the student. Teaching is at its most effective when the student is happy and engaged, so firstly one must undertake an approach which fosters this mindset. Indeed, sometimes it is best to work in reverse: let the student go where they want to go, as this will inevitably be an area where they are happy and engaged, and then use this space to teach in (this is particularly effective for younger students). Of course, the needs of someone learning out of a sense of casual curiosity or enjoyment are different to the needs of someone working towards a grade 8 exam, so this will also be reflected in the teaching style and practise. I am equipped for either.
