Welcome to my account!
My name is Dominika and I recently graduated with a 2.1 at BMus Music at the University of Manchester, specialising in Violin and Electro-Acoustic composition. Currently, I am studying MA at the National Film and Television School in the UK, specialising in Sound Design for film, TV and games.
I have played violin for 15 years. I have a wide performance experience, as I played in different ensembles such as the Hampshire County Youth Orchestra, University of Manchester Symphony Orchestra, UNC Chapel Hill Symphony Orchestra, string quartets, string octet, duo concertos. In 2014, I took part in a Bournemouth music festival competition, winning the class "Grade 8+" with a distinction.
I also took part in electric violin live looping course with Steve Bingham, which sparked my interest in playing the electric violin. I have performed in a rock/pop band in Manchester, entirely improvising over English and Polish songs. I have been a member of the String Infusion group, where I performed amongst the best UK string players at various corporate events, weddings, recording sessions and others in and outside of Manchester and London.
Except the classical music, I have a huge love for musicals, and I have been taking part in musical theatre productions for three years, playing the violin. I also love playing with AMEN Gospel Choir and Orchestra that comprises of amateur and professional singers and professional players, who get together to play religious songs in jazz, latin, gospel and classical arrangements!
I am a passionate musician, enthusiastic about teaching and sharing my experience with others!
I have been a private violin teacher for the past eight years. I have taught a range of students from the age of 6 to 45, so it's never too late to learn!
I have taken a placement at a primary school, as a teaching assistant/observer. This course helped me improve my leadership skills, knowledge of teaching and communication with children and professionals. I have also organised and played at a workshop with a large group of year 4 pupils during my time at university.
I can teach violin till grade 7 and music theory till grade 5.
My approach to teaching will depend on the needs and interests of each student. Whether student decides to work for:
to obtain a certain qualification (ABRSM)
other goals (school concerts, competitions)
I see myself as a patient, persistent, dedicated teacher and always expect best results from my students. I tailor my lessons to each pupil, taking into account their personality, abilities and own goals. I will keep the lesson fun and enjoyable, so that the student finishes wanting to do more!
For beginners (violin), I will start with teaching the right technique of a bow hold, and the right position of the left hand, which are crucial to successful playing as well as pay attention to the posture. I will teach the names of different parts of the violin, and playing in 1st position.
For later stages, I will tailor my lessons depending on their abilities, so that each student benefits as much as possible from my lessons.
For music theory, I will help towards an exam (up to grade 5 ABRSM) or if you just want to learn how to read and write music for yourself or to help your school work.
