Personal Description:
I am a teacher of saxophone, clarinet and flute.I perform regularly across the UK in theatres, clubs and on the jazz festival circuit. I have performed on several albums and have a CD under my own name. I have appeared on radio and **Contact Detail Removed**vision on numerous occasions. I have over twenty years of teaching experience. I specialise in jazz improvisation, but enjoy teaching all styles. I have a 100% pass rate in grade examinations.I am proud to say that many of my students have gone on to music college, and some have become professional musicians in their own right.
Tutoring Experience:
I began my teaching career at The Ipswich School, where I also directed ensembles. I then taught for Norfolk County Council for 12 years, and was director of the Norwich Students Training Jazz Orchestra. I then taught briefly for the Bolton Music Service and Wigan ITP, before being appointed Saxophone Tutor at Ampleforth College, where I remained for seven years before concentrating on private teaching, performing and conducting jazz workshops.
Tutoring Approach:
I like to think I have a warm, friendly approach towards my students. However, I feel I have a responsibility to teach the correct techniques at all times. I am keen to teach my pupils in an informed way, and mastering the basics as an essential foundation to future progress and enjoyable music making. All of my students are shown how to read music, play by ear, improvise and have a thorough understanding of how their instrument works, so that they have the ability to reach their fullest potential.
