Personal Description:

I have been a singer and guitarist fronting bands and working as a solo artist for over 20 years. I was signed as a singer / songwriter to db records and Topcat music in the noughties releasing a couple of albums in the "folk-rock" vein. I fronted a classic soul, rock & pop covers band from 2008 to 2019.
In the last decade my musical tastes and development have veered heavily towards jazz. I have been studying trumpet and developing jazz language for improvisation and composition. Although I have developed a love for great improvised solos and improvised music generally. I will always love strong songs and composition at the root of it.
Tutoring Experience:
Over the years I've taught a handful of students choosing to focus on my own practice and development. I was a highly motivated self taught musician for 15 years. In 2010 I decided to learn the trumpet as a mature student on a brand new instrument I sought out tuition from a range of teachers focused on jazz over the last decade.
This experience has helped me understand the beginners mind and how to break down complex skills and understanding concepts which I'm now keen to offer out to students.
Tutoring Approach:
I am highly passionate about passing on musical knowledge. I consider myself a lifelong student of music and am always looking for new ways to approach and understand fundamentals.
If you study with me I will help you develop and encourage strong roots in musical fundamentals. Every student is different and I approach each student on an individual basis.
If you just want to learn some simple songs you love we can do that. If you'd like to push your technique and develop a much higher harmonic knowledge and rhythmic feel we can do that. Am happy to teach simple songs on ukulele, learn rock riffs on guitar, help you to understand functional harmony or help you to develop tools for practicing jazz improvisation etc!
