Personal Description:
I am an experienced music teacher based in Bristol, working regularly with young musicians to nurture their love of music and help them achieve their musical goals. This includes developing performance skills, composing and improvising, preparing for exams and more. I am passionate about music and, alongside teaching, I also work as a choir leader, arranger, composer, and performer.
Tutoring Experience:
I am a qualified teacher (QTS), having served as a Head of Music at secondary level for over 10 years, I am an expert in music pedagogy, having designed music curricula in collaboration with the local music hub—some of which are now used nationally—and have spoken at conferences on music education.
I have over eight years of experience tutoring both instrumental music (piano, guitar, ukulele, bass and music tech) and academic content including music theory, GCSE, and A-level preparation to a range of students from 4 upwards.
Tutoring Approach:
My philosphy is to listen to the student and find out what excites them about learning an instrument, then to tailor their learning to their individual needs and interests. This may involve reading music, graded exams and performing, but also may involve none of these, instead focussed around learning to play favourite pop songs using chords. I aim to keep lessons fun, engaging and purposeful for all students, regardless of previous experience or individual goals. Music making is a powerful, joyful experience and my teaching aims to always keep this at the forefront.
