Personal Description:
I have played guitar professionally for 12 years, within some very well established function bands in the Kent area. I have completed a commercial music degree at Canterbury Christchurch University. I enjoy playing all styles of music and I am always thinking of ways to better myself as a player and a teacher. Before my degree, I studied music GCSE and A-level, which has given me a great foundation in music theory knowledge. I have recently moved to Lampeter, Wales and I am currently working towards teaching in the area privately, online and in local schools peripatetically.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught guitar and music theory since 2010, teaching students from all ages and abilities. Also, I have helped students at University level, by providing additional assistance in their studies. From 2016 -2019 I taught guitar peripatetically at Simon Langton Girls Grammar School (Canterbury, Kent,) Chatham and Clarendon Grammar School (Ramsgate, Kent.) and St George's Primary and Secondary Schools. In this time I also worked with G4 Guitar School Ashford, teaching guitar to groups of 5 students at a time. Most recently I have worked as a guitar tutor for St. Lawrence College (Ramsgate, Kent) Dane Court Grammar School (Broadstairs, Kent) and Barton Junior School (Dover, Kent.) I have recently moved to Lampeter, Wales and I am currently focusing my efforts towards private tuition (both in person and online) from my home studio and the surrounding towns.
Tutoring Approach:
I start by listening to the interests and goals that any new student has in mind. Depending on the student, I may suggest taking graded exams. I currently teach from the following exam boards:
RGT - Acoustic
Trinity - Classical
Trinity Rock and Pop - Electric.
Taking grades isn't compulsory though, as if students have a goal to play a certain style or specific song I'll be able to tailor lessons to suit them too.
I provide a pack of lessons from the start for students to study at home. These lessons are focused on individual skills required to play any style of guitar. If a student is unsure of the direction they want to take with music, studying the skills will allow time for a decision to be made.
