Information About Damon - Birmingham teacher

Personal Description:

I am a well experienced and passionate musician who has been making music for over twenty years. Throughout this time I have performed regularly in the Midlands as well as nationally and internationally. I have performed in ensemble’s on drum kit and percussion and worked as a community musician in the Midlands area, running projects at the Birmingham Conservatoire and with the homeless, schools, young people on the ISSP program as well as other disadvantaged groups.
Similarly, I have been working as a Music Tutor in further education for over ten years running classes on music history, drum kit, music and society, world music and community music.

Tutoring Experience:

-Tutor at South Birmingham College, previously running world, community, music history, contextual studies and drum kit classes.
-Teaching private Drum kit lessons up to Grade 8 standard
-Teaching African drumming workshops, both privately and through Arts funded projects, focusing on traditional West African rhythms involving djembe, dun dun and bell.
-Drum tutor for Crisis Skylight Birmingham helping local people in disadvantaged situations achieve Qualifications.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe music is a powerful unifying force, a universal language that should be open to everyone as a means for health, wellbeing, self expression and spreading useful and positive messages. I give drum kit tuition one to one mainly whilst African drumming workshops are usually approached in groups from 5-15 however I am open to any students specific requirements.
