Personal Description:
**Chosen name = Columba** I charge £15 per 30 minute lesson.
I am currently an MMus student at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music (London), where I specialise in violin performance. I graduated from the University of Southampton in July 2019 with First Class Honours in BA Music.
At the University of Southampton, I lead both the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras (‘SUSO’ and ‘SUSinfonietta’). I also managed SUSinfonietta in my final year and was the librarian of SUSO for two years. I believe myself to be a well-rounded musician, as I was also a choral scholar at the University of Southampton, and studied conducting in my final year.
Before my university degree, I was fortunate to study at the Royal College of Music Junior Department every Saturday. At RCMJD, I received instrumental, orchestral and chamber music coaching, music theory coaching and choral coaching from world-class musicians. I have led prestigious orchestras, such as the National Youth Chamber Orchestra of Great Britain (2017), the Charity Symphony Orchestra (2019), and been a member of several other orchestras such as the prestigious BBC Proms Youth Ensemble (2016).
I have an interest in the musical education of young people. In my first year at the University of Southampton, I lead the Social Outreach Primary School Project, which promoted orchestral playing and youth engagement with classical music. I have also had experience with Pastoral Care and was a member of the Pastoral Team on a weeklong residential music course in April 2018.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught local children and some adults privately for several years.
Tutoring Approach:
My teaching style is centred around personalised and flexible teaching that is adaptable to the needs of each child, as I recognise that each child has different abilities and interests. I also believe in building up key musicianship and theory skills alongside my teaching, so that students develop a good foundation for their musical knowledge. Most importantly, I believe in making learning fun and rewarding, because that’s why we do it!
