Personal Description:

I am a violinist and educator originally from Singapore.

I am passionate about music education and moved to Glasgow in 2023 to pursue my Masters’ degree in Performance and Pedagogy. With musician injuries being so common, I am currently also doing research on healthier violin performance and teaching.

Alongside teaching, I am part of the Braeside Quartet and Mackintosh Ensemble.

When I am not teaching or performing, I enjoy hiking, gardening, cooking and knitting. I am also a mum to 2 lovely cats.

Tutoring Experience:

Beside my own private studio, I am also an Upper Strings Musician at Big Noise Raploch and a Deputy Lecturer at the RCS Junior Department. Previously, I worked in Singapore at The Music Circle where I was a Senior Educator.

I have worked with children aged 6 and above as well as adults, in both individual and small group settings.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe playing an instrument is not just about executing what is on the page, but is a complex combination of skills and a great way to learn lifelong skills and build character. To have the ability to play an instrument however you wish, is essentially very powerful and rewarding for children!

My lessons are fun and creative, using a variety of activities and games to tailor learning to your child. Alongside violin technique, I include musicianship skills so that students are well equipped in their learning. My teaching method is inspired by Kodaly, Rolland, Mimi Zweig and Dalcroze.

I focus on holistic learning and place great emphasis on helping students achieve a comfortable set up to play in as balanced a way possible. To prevent injury and discomfort in the long-term, I encourage students to learn about their bodies and the mechanics of how they move.

Lesson durations are according to the student's focus and stamina, ranging from 30 mins to an hour.
