Personal Description:
I enjoy teaching and aim to motivate and encourage students, developing the skills to enable them to enjoy playing their instrument. I prepare students for ABRSM or Trinity Guildhall exams - or no exams if preferred! There is the opportunity to play in the summer pupils' concert and to attend a professional concert. I have many years of experience, teaching both piano and cello in schools/colleges and privately. I also work as a freelance cellist in the North West.
I studied cello and piano at the Guildhall School of Music and went on to work as a freelance cellist in London for a variety of orchestras including English Touring Opera, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Academy of St Martin in the Field. I also taught piano and cello in a several private schools. I moved to the North West in 2000 continuing to freelance with Northern Chamber Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Opera North
In 2002, I trained to be a music class teacher and have worked in several Secondary Schools and Sixth Form colleges in the North West alongside freelance playing work.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught cello and piano privately for many years.
My instrumental teaching in schools has included in London Alleyns School, Dulwich and Trinity School, Croydon. I also deputised at the Royal Academy of Music teaching cello. In the North West, I have taught at Liverpool College and St Mary's College, Crosby.
In recent years, my teaching has included A level music teaching in Sixth Form Colleges.
Tutoring Approach:
My aim to motivate and adapt to the individual, enabling them to progress and enjoy their studies - either as a hobby or building towards a career in music. I like teaching all ages and standards. Lessons are usually 30 minutes long for piano. Cello lessons are 30 minutes or 40 minutes+ depending on the standard.
