Personal Description:
I have had a very enjoyable and successful career as a violinist and conductor for nearly 30 years. I was Leader of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and I led and played in principal positions in the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, the Royal Opera House orchestra, and many others. I played a large amount of chamber music with some of the world's most eminent musicians and performed a great deal of the concerto and solo repertoire. I have conducted orchestras including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Northern Sinfonia and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught for many years at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, at the universities of Edinburgh and St Andrews, and privately.
Tutoring Approach:
I love to be encouraging and share my passion for music! I have thought a lot about the techniques involved and have a holistic approach to the physical aspects involved. Everyone is different and wants different things from a teacher and I try to listen to the individual.
