Personal Description:
I am a professional vocal coach fully qualified in teaching all forms of contemporary singing styles. I developed a love for music from an early age and started singing as a child. Since then I have sand in choirs, bands, musicals and as an acoustic solo act. I also play piano and guitar and have been a songwriter for more than 25 years.
Tutoring Experience:
Several years ago I decided to take my passion for singing further and trained as a vocal coach. I gained my Certificate in Contemporary Vocal Teaching in 2009 and I am currently in the process of completing my Professional Diploma. I love singing so much that I am constantly on a quest to feed my hunger for more information, so that I can pass as much knowledge onto my students as possible!
Tutoring Approach:
As a vocal coach my whole approach to teaching is a holistic one, and at the very centre of all singing lessons is you – the student!
As no two students are the same, I don’t find it beneficial to adhere to a rigid teaching formula or a particular lesson structure. However, the first few singing lessons that I provide to my students are designed to cover the basic tools of vocal technique, including, but not limited to, breathing and support.
Additional core principles and techniques which I feel are essential components for teaching any singer include an understanding of how the sound is produced, together with work on resonance, registers and placement. On top of this I draw from a variety of well known and highly reputable singing techniques and methodologies including Estill, The Deva Method and the Alexander technique to name a few.
Once these elements are in place I strive to discover and mould the performing artist within. Here I will cover all aspects of performance including; musical interpretation and phrasing, communication to the audience, stage presence, microphone and recording techniques, audition preparation, performance anxiety and a whole lot more!
