Personal Description:

I have played the violin for over 18 years. I received a bachelor's degree in music performance from Kansas State University and a master’s degree from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Over the course of my studies I have developed a deep passion for exploring music through violin performance and collaborating with other musicians through a variety of performance settings. I have experience performing in symphony orchestras, chamber groups, folk groups, pit orchestras, and many other ensembles. I’m always looking for new and non-traditional ways to perform violin and collaborate with others on innovative projects.

Tutoring Experience:

I started my own private violin and viola teaching studio in 2014 that ran for over five years in the US before moving to the UK to pursue a postgraduate degree. I taught students from Key Stages 1-5 with a wide range of skill levels. I would create personalised tuition for each student to match their needs, whether they were preparing for competitions or exams, or just learning for fun. Each student got to experience both traditional repertoire as well as more contemporary styles of playing.

Tutoring Approach:

First and foremost, I think maintaining a compassionate and encouraging teaching environment for students is absolutely essential. Students should be allowed to explore their musical creativity in a judgement-free environment. I like to approach each student’s tuition with an openness to their personal goals with music and set their challenges and pacing accordingly. I also put emphasis on teaching a variety of practice methods to every student, to empower them to progress in their studies independently of our lessons.
