Personal Description:

The true job of the music teacher, is turning passion into artistry. Alongside being a Piano Teacher I am also composer and Multi-instrumentalist.

Commercially, I have composed music for clients that include The O2, Mercedes, as well as National / International Tourism campaigns on behalf of Visit UK and Visit Faroe Islands. My music most notably featured on a promotional short for his hometown of Portsmouth. This video was played as a part of the International D-Day Commemorations where World Leaders and UK Royalty were in attendance.

As a Pianist I have performed Nationwide at shows numbering in the near thousands. As a Solo Pianist, I have held residencies at Luxury Hotels, Restaurants, Private Dinner clubs, alongside working at High end Corporate Events and Weddings throughout the United Kingdom. I also work as a Jazz Pianist doing session work for upcoming UK Jazz artists.

The true job of the music teacher is turning passion into artistry, and it is my belief that EVERYONE can learn a musical instrument.

My teaching method is based on the experiences I have gained, and the lessons I have learned from working in the music industry across the last ten years, as a Composer, Jazz Musician and Piano teacher.

The Lesson

From our first lesson, students are encouraged to think and engage with their instrument like a musician. They are taught to take pride in their achievements, to practice independently and be open to all genres of music. In my experience, it is only when a student begins to understand music at a working level that they achieve true confidence on their instrument. Because of this I cover all aspects of musicianship within my lessons including sight reading, playing by ear, working from chords and even composing.

From a practical standpoint, all of my students work with me to construct their own independent repertoire of 6 songs that THEY love and WANT to learn. Pop, jazz, classical, contemporary- no genre is off limits. Alongside this, students are taught basic music theory relative to their instrument, whilst developing their technical abilities through scales and excersizes. After three months learning their setlist, we record those 6 songs to document progress, before choosing a new repertoire which reflects the students new & improved abilities!

The Method

This unique method keeps students progressing, whilst enabling them to be self reflecting, and to take pride in their musical journey. Furthermore, it inspires them with the knowledge that no song is off limits. In the 4 years I have used this method, dozens of my students, adults and children alike, have been able to make huge progress within relatively short spaces of time! In the cases where students opt to go down a graded route, I teach ABRSM and Trinity syllabus and have a 100% pass rate.
