Personal Description:
I am a certified singing teacher of the technique of Legends, Speech Level Singing - used by over 120 Grammy award winners including Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Kelly Clarkson as well as many leading vocalists across Broadway and the Principle Opera.
Singing lessons and learning or perfecting vocal technique is crucial to any level of singer, whether you are a beginner to singing, a fresh but aspiring vocalist, or even an experienced performer. As a singing teacher I can help you to understand your voice and to achieve whichever goals you have regarding your technique or sound using effective tools and advice.
With years of passionate musical experience, gathering technical knowledge of the voice and applying that to myself and my students, I am able to bring skill, experience and enthusiasm into my pupils learning as well as delivering practical technique advice to assist you in maintaining a healthy, efficient and powerful voice - the foundation of any singer.
Tutoring Experience:
In early 2007 I was introduced to a legendary vocal technique called Speech Level Singing (SLS) which I studied intently, having had private voice lessons and attended master classes delivered by world renowned vocal coaches Wendy Parr, John Henny, Greg Enriquez, Jeffrey Skouson, Dave Stroud and Spencer Welch as well as help from London-based coaches Lucy Phillips and Line Hilton. I have also spent many hours observing these incredible coaches teach and have picked up some invaluable knowledge and experience through their training and discussions.
The technique helped me to greatly improve my ability, range and stamina which in turn gave me the confidence to make the decision to become a fully professional singer and performer and envelope myself in music week in, week out, with a solid technique finally at the heart of it all. Vocal coaching inevitably became a part of that vision and I launched myself as a professional vocal coach in December 2008 after officially certifying as a Speech Level Singing Teacher with the SLS organisation, teaching for the Southern School of Popular Singing (SSPS) and privately. Since the start of my exciting journey with Speech Level Singing I have continued to expand my knowledge of the technique as well as embrace new techniques and voice research into my lessons, which helps me reach new heights with my students and their voices.
Through singing tuition I have also had the pleasure of working with music institutions across the South delivering workshops for all levels of student promoting good technique and helping students identify their own areas of development, and to feel the benefits of technique by addressing these areas with tuition. I am also a vocal tutor at the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) in Guildford where I have the pleasure of delivering classes on vocal technique and health, musical styles, harmony singing and improvisation to the bright young talent that runs through their institute.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tuition is to break down the barriers in the voice using quick and effective tools. Once those tough areas of the voice are a little more useable then we can work on being expressive and stylistic, as freedom is the only thing that can allow all of that.
