Personal Description:

I passed Grade VI piano with Merit at the age of 14 and followed this with studies in piano and percussion at the London Centre for Young Musicians.

Since then I have been performing as a solo pianist, as a keyboard player and drummer in bands and as a percussionist in brass bands.

In order to pursue my academic interests in music I have done several Open University Courses including the Elements of Music course which I passed with distinction. I have recently been awarded the OU's Postgraduate Diploma in Music.

My varied musical experience, both practical and academic, has enabled me to design lessons which will give students not only the technical skills they need but also the sense of all-round musicianship which is essential whatever genre they choose to perform in.

Tutoring Experience:

Throughout my working life and have taken great pride in mentoring younger colleagues whether training engineers or working with less experienced musicians. In both Maths and Music my experience as a practitioner and my skills in relating to people have fitted me for a teaching role.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to base my teaching on the needs of the pupil. Some pupils will have a clear idea of where they want to go, while others may need guidance as to what routes are available. Whatever the position my golden rule is to listen to what the pupil tells me and develop matters appropriately from there.
