Personal Description:

Hi there! My name is Chris, I've been musically educated to Masters level at Goldsmiths College London and since then have taught guitar in music shops, schools (DBS checked), and privately. I'm comfortable teaching a wide variety of musical styles (including classical, blues, flamenco, rock, and much more) and am also happy to teach the theory of music having passed Grade 8 Theory at the age of 17.

I have been a guitar student of Alan Thomas (classical and flamenco), Charles Ramirez (classical), Pete Boss (blues and rock), and Hugh Turner (jazz, blues, classical) so have a wealth of knowledge and guitar teaching methods at my fingertips.

Covid caused me to move my teaching online and I use Zoom or Skype, but I do now offer face-to-face tuition based at Archive Studios in St Anne's, Bristol. My online tuition costs a little less than face-to-face so do get in touch for details.

Tutoring Experience:

I've been teaching guitar for 25 years now in music shops, schools, and privately.

I have helped many, many students to pass Grades of all styles and levels with ABRSM, Trinity, Rock School and RGT. But I am also more than happy to help students learn without Graded exams, they suit some but not others!

Tutoring Approach:

My style of teaching is based on understanding what you are playing so that you do not just learn a series of isolated songs/pieces. I like to explain about how music is constructed so that each song/piece that you learn will help you with the next one.
