Personal Description:
I am passionate about music, drums / drumming, and brass playing, and enjoy the challenge of passing on my knowledge and experience to other players.
I teach all ages (I'm CRB checked and have public liability insurance) - from the absolute beginner to the intermediate player, and focus on moulding my students into well-rounded musicians that are desirable in real-world situations.
I introduce all areas of drumming, be it pop, rock, latin, jazz, reading music, music theory, technique, playing to a click / metronome, time keeping, etc, etc… In trumpet lessons I ensure that my students are able to read fluently, and focus on sight-reading as well as creating a consistent sound and tone on the instrument.
Rather than follow a set syllabus I prefer to work with the strengths and weaknesses of each individual student, drawing on my experience and access to extensive tuition materials. Alongside this, I recognise that if used correctly the grade systems are a useful and effective part of the learning experience, and my students have a 100% pass rate on their drum kit and trumpet exams.
I teach from my own studio in Liverpool city centre. My studio is very well equipped, including playback facilities, recording facilities, and two drum kits permanently set up so the student stays behind a drum kit for the whole lesson. There is a café in the building that parents can wait in for the duration of the lesson, or if preferred they can sit in on the lesson themselves.
I have a limited number of lesson slots available, please contact me to discuss lessons for your child (or yourself!).
Tutoring Experience:
Since 2008 I have been teaching privately and in schools around the Liverpool area.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that first and foremost learning a musical instrument should be fun. We listen to music because we enjoy it, and we should play it because we enjoy it too! With this in mind, lessons with me are relaxed and informal, and I try my best to inspire my students to better themselves because they want to.
