Personal Description:

I'm a singer-songwriter with a Masters in Songwriting & Music Production and a BA in Popular Music Performance. I taught myself keys when I was 12 both by ear and theory books. I did my BTEC National Diploma in Popular music from 2010-2012 then did one year in classical, world and pop music at Bangor Uni. I haven't done any grades but am very comfortable playing by ear. I mainly play pop and synths as I'm in an 80s synthrock band (both covers and originals). I can teach simple theory but advanced chord theory (relative minors, maj 7s, 9s, 13th etc, circle of fifths). I have also been using Logic Pro (production program) for the past 9 years after being taught how to craft, contruct, mix, master and record on there throughout my BTEC, undergrad and Masters degrees. I'm also a singer and very comfortable harmonising in vocal.

Tutoring Experience:

I began teaching in church when I was 13, a few months after learning basic chord theory and began teaching pop songs on Youtube for a few years whilst doing my BTEC National diploma at music college whilst teaching friends after classes. I continued to teach friends and family throughout my undergrad aswell as my classmates and inbetween my BA and MA did some teaching for open mics in and around Malvern and Worcester.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to give my students the liberty to pick exactly what it is they want to learn and why ; lots of my students have wanted to learn chords and songwriting for the purposes of being self sufficient when it comes to open mics and gigs where there are other students who simply wanted to learn a set number of pop songs to use for party pieces or for special occasions and recreation. My lessons generally begin with teaching the chords in each key; I.E.- if we begin with the key of C, we go through C, Dm, Em, F etc and then onto the next key. That way we can learn a basic song with 2 or 3 chords and the student can familairise themselves with basic theory.
