Personal Description:

Charlie (formerly Charlie Heys) is one of the UK's most arresting and individual violin and folk fiddle players. Well-known for her beautiful sound and original compositions, she released her first solo album 'Little Beginnings' in 2017. She is also violinist and composer with string quartet The Froe, Propellor Ensemble and The Fair Rain.

She grew up in Hampshire where she studied with Joyce Ingledew and Devorina Gamalova, continuing her studies in classical violin at Birmingham Conservatoire where she gained a BMus(Hons) in 2009. She then went on to study at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) in Glasgow where she achieved a PgDip with distinction in Scottish fiddle music. She was a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards with duo McNeill and Heys and is most proud of her work on their 4 critically acclaimed albums which received excellent reviews from respected magazines and newspapers such as The Sunday Times and The **Contact Detail Removed**graph.

She performs regularly all over the UK and teaches violin from her home in Worcestershire. She is also curator of a new baby and toddler musical innitiave 'Live Music For Little Ones', creating exciting and fun sessions for preschool age children to experience live music

Tutoring Experience:

Since leaving music college, I have enjoyed a varied career of both performing musician and violin teacher. I have three years' experience working at Dudley Performing Arts as a visiting violin teacher to schools, to take both whole classes of children and small groups.

I was assistant conductor of the Sandwell Music and Arts Service Intermediate String Orchestra for four years, alongside Helen Lancaster and was also violin teacher and string ensemble director at Tile Hill Wood school and language college in Coventry.

I have also co-led workshops for children at Cambridge Folk Festival and adult workshops at Purbeck Folk Festival, Wickham Folk Festival and Sidmouth Folk Week.

I now teach private one-to-one lessons from my home in Worcestershire, I am happy to teach folk and classical style violin from beginner to grade eight and beyond, or just for fun!

Tutoring Approach:

I'm a very friendly laid back teacher who caters each lesson to the student so that they can reach their full potential while enjoying their instrument
