Personal Description:
I am a kind and compassionate musician who is very passionate about teaching. I have been playing the cello for over 30 years and have performed all over the world as a soloist and chamber musician, including performances at the Wigmore Hall and the Purcell Room. I have worked professionally in orchestras throughout Europe, yet I found my true love is to teach and develop a love for music and cello playing in my students. I began my studies at the age of 4 and attended the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama at 8 years old, studying with Selma Goksen. At 15, I moved to Oslo to study my bachelor of music with the world renowned cellist, Truls Mørk. After finishing a degree in Psychoanalysis, I furthered my studies with Raphael Walfisch in the masters program at the Royal College of Music, London. I have received a first class with honours in all of my studies. Nowadays, I live in South Oxford with my husband, son and our little dog, Dylan Thomas, where I teach the cello and play chamber music.
Tutoring Experience:
I have over 15 years teaching experience and have taught students of all ages and abilities in Norway, Italy and The U.K.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that whether learning to play the cello for a career or simply for the love of playing music, learning an instrument is a fundamental key to developing the mind and our artistic sensibilities. It is essential to me that all my students learn to play the cello with a solid technique that gives them the ability to express themselves musically without any technical boundaries. I do not find it essential to learn the cello via a ‘grade system’ however I appreciate that this is important to many British students and I am happy to work through any grade exams one my wish to learn. Most of all, my approach to music teaching is to give my student confidence in their playing and a love for the instrument.
