This is how 3 referees rated Catherine:
At the age of 22 I graduated from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with a BMus(hons) degree in Trumpet Performance. I was awarded an annual scholarship during the four years I attended. At the conservatoire I was under the tuition of principal trumpet players from the BBC Symphony Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Shakespeare Company. I also took up playing the natural trumpet whilst I was in my third year there and have enjoyed it ever since.
In September I started my post-graduate degree at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London on the Orchestral Artistry Programme, which is in association with the London Symphony Orchestra. This course regularly entails sitting in and playing with the LSO during their rehearsals. I was lucky enough to be awarded a post-graduate scholarship with Help Musicians UK and I am currently a named Guildhall Scholar, supported by the Norman Gee Foundation. I'm currently under the tuition of trumpeters from the London Philharmonic Orchestra, English National Opera and the Royal Ballet Sinfonia.
I love the fact I am constantly learning more about the trumpet each day even after more than 10 years of playing.
I grew up in Stockport, Greater Manchester, so brass bands were a big part of my life until moving to Birmingham in 2014 for my undergraduate. I would be more than happy to teach the cornet to any students who are interested too!
I love swimming, military fitness and walking my cocker spaniel Marley.
- One to one trumpet lessons (Range of abilities)
- Been part of LSO Discovery Days
- Have led workshops to whole primary schools/whole classes with a brass quintet
- Was a part of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire outreach programmes
I'm extremely open when teaching the trumpet, everybody is different and I will tailor my teaching to suit the student! The main thing is that my students enjoy the new skill that they will be learning however far they wish to take it.
Please note: I recommend to beginners that you start off with half hour lessons.
