Personal Description:
I am a musician, and Early Years and SEN/D music practitioner.
As a musician, I have experience in orchestral playing, chamber music and solo. I play Bb clarinet, A clarinet, tenor saxophone and bass clarinet. I enjoy playing many different genres, and have experience in classical, contemporary classical, pop, jazz and klezmer. I currently play in London-based Balkan folk band “ShunTA!” (tenor saxophone).
I'm studying a PGCert in Sounds of Intent with Professor Adam Ockelford and have completed an Interactive Music Making training with Music as Therapy, to use music with Early Years. Music can impact the learning of children and adults in many ways: I want to become someone who can actively use Music as both a source of focus and pleasure for individuals with learning difficulties, and I want employ it effectively to promote wider learning, and help create an inclusive and accessible environment where this can happen.
I aspire to become a music therapist and am passionate about community music and leading group musical workshops. I believe in an approach to music that is inclusive and participatory, both therapeutically and educationally. In my opinion, music should be used as an effective tool to support illness, disability, isolation, education difficulties, and mental health.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been tutoring clarinet since 2014, worked as a Teaching Assistant for 2 years (2017-2019) and have been working as a freelance music practitioner since 2019.
I am currently working as a freelance music practitioner doing music sessions for children in nurseries and in SEN/D schools.
Tutoring Approach:
I take a holistic approach to clarinet tutoring, I try to make my students passionate about playing and help them express themselves through music. Where they wished to do music exams I have tailored the lessons to their needs and helped them succeed.
For me playing is about connecting, communicating and expressing yourself and in my lessons I create a safe, non-judgmental environment for my students to learn in, but most importantly to have fun and relax.
