Personal Description:
After studying for a BA in music at Nottingham University and a Masters in Music Analysis at Goldsmith's College University of London, I worked as a producer and reporter in radio broadcasting for many years (including with both BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM). Twelve years ago I retrained as a music therapist and piano teacher (gaining the Cert PTC). I hold the LTCL in piano performance and currently study with Claudia Schurr; I have also been a pupil of Heli Ignatius-Fleet, and taken occasional lessons with teachers including Graham Fitch, Philip Fowke and Jeremy Young. I am a keen member of the London piano group, and also attend the Chethams summer school.
Please note; my working name is Caroline
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught privately for the past ten years, at all levels from beginner to diploma. For four years I also taught in a school two afternoons a week. I regularly enter pupils for exams, and have a 100 percent pass rate, with most gaining Merit or Distinction.
Tutoring Approach:
I specialise in teaching adults (from beginners to advanced). I focuse on technique and musical detail right from the beginning and ensure that my students develop good habits and practise regularly and well.
I am also a qualified music therapist; I feel this impacts on her teaching. I treat each pupil as an individual, preparing personal learning plans which take into account ambitions, musical tastes, and life circumstances.
I also consider it important that all pupils gain structural understanding of the music they are playing and for this reason I include some theory tuition as an integral part of all piano lessons. I also offer extra coaching for pupils wishing to take Grade 5 or other theory exams.
I am a Professional Member of the European Piano Teachers Association (EPTA) and regularly attend EPTA and ABRSM events and study days; also the Chethams Summer School.
