Personal Description:

My name is Bethan Lee and I am a music therapist, piano and clarinet teacher, teacher of music theory, multi-therapy disability clinic founder, and mother. I have worked for ten years in Africa and eight years in the UK as a music therapist, piano, clarinet, and guitar teacher, and Gospel choir leader.

Tutoring Experience:

I am a music therapist with a Bachelor of Music and Masters in Music Therapy degrees. I have been teaching piano and clarinet for 26 years and have had 100% success rate of pupils passing exams. I have taught children, teenagers, and adults, each of whom has had a different learning style and taste in music. One loved playing Adele and singing along to her playing, another wanted to learn Debussy, and others were playing because their parents made them!

Tutoring Approach:

I can teach the standard ABRSM syllabus (including theory and practical tests) but also believe that pupils who enjoy playing generally learn better so I am guided by the pupil's music tastes. For example if you love Coldplay then let's learn by playing Coldplay songs! I also believe that playing by ear is an important part of enjoying the piano so will teach chord structures that can be used to play pretty much any pop song requested by family or friends! Being a music therapist, I also teach children or adults with learning disabilities and am sensitive to their needs and levels of development.
