My musical journey:
I started playing piano 'by ear' at the age of 5. I later studied classical piano for some years with a gifted Royal Academy professor, working my way through all the grades and winning a classical piano competition.
In my teens, I became fascinated by synthesizers and began playing electric keyboards with various bands. By the time I was 20 I'd gained much diverse experience as a keyboard player.
I turned fully professional in 1988 and have since enjoyed a thrilling career playing piano and keyboards around the globe with many wonderful bands and singers.
I have a recent enhanced DBS certificate.
I was fortunate to have been taught classical piano by a truly exceptional teacher. I learnt a huge amount about the art of teaching piano from this amazing lady.
I started teaching piano in 1992 and have taught a wide range of ages and abilities.
More than anything else, I aim to make every piano lesson a fun and uplifting experience! My teaching is always shaped to suit the unique goals, preferences and aptitudes of each student, and I'll do everything in my power to support my students!
Lessons are fun AND all important aspects of piano playing are given due attention. eg. note reading, chords, harmony, technique, scales, arpeggios, posture, rhythmic awareness, improvisation, music theory and more.
I often teach students how to play by ear. Once you've developed such an ability, you'll be able to play songs you hear without the need of sheet music.
I've played many forms of music over the years and this diverse musical experience enables me to teach many different styles of playing - classical, pop, jazz etc.
I give mobile lessons, meaning that I come to you. I offer a free introductory lesson, with no obligation. Most of my students have 30 minute lessons (which cost from £17) but some students will benefit from longer lessons. Please note that my fee may sometimes be a little more than the displayed rate - it will depend on your location.
Please get in touch if you have any questions or would like to book a trial lesson with me.
