Personal Description:

Ben is a proudly self-taught multi-instrumentalist. His first loves are piano, drum kit and double bass, but he’s always adding new instruments to his collection and challenging himself to expand his skills. He enjoys a career as a composer, tutor and examiner for Rock School & Yamaha, and from September 2021 Ben will be studying an MSc in Music and Sound for Film and Games from Hertfordshire University.

Ben is the creator of the Throw It Down method and composes music for: branded content, as the independent artist ‘Sponn’ and the electro-pop/folk/jazz duo ‘GREEN AND PINE’.

In addition he creates music related articles, cross arts media and has a **Contact Detail Removed** channel showcasing his compositions and transcriptions. In 2011 he gained a Music Degree from LCCM before playing with a diverse range of bands and artists. He’s performed for festivals, album recordings and music videos across a range of genres, the highlights include:

Session work for Shaw Thing Artist Management - Joy Crookes and Gabrielle Aplin,

Sofar Sounds, The Roundhouse, Abbey Road, Edinburgh Fringe.

In 2017 he moved to Luton where he teaches from his garden studio in person and online, offering students the chance to use industry standard instruments and programs such as Logic and Sibelius.

Tutoring Experience:

The benefits of learning an instrument are huge. It boosts your memory, abstract reasoning skills, creativity, confidence, patience and relieves stress. Most importantly it is fun. I teach the drum kit, piano, theory and composition. I love sharing my passion with my students, supporting and empowering them to become the best they can be. I’m big on inspiring my students to continue progressing between lessons, independently, focussing on technical ability, stylistic understanding and the development of their own musical voice.

If you choose to take graded examinations, I have a strong track record of getting students high marks. I’m an examiner myself, so I know exactly how to prepare you. Grades 6-8 practical / theory give you UCAS points equivalent to A levels, and grades 5-6 are regarded as equivalent to GCSE level. It’s a great way to stand out when applying to schools and universities.

I teach children and adults 1-to-1 from my home in Luton, at students’ homes and online. Students coming to me benefit from access to industry standard equipment and software - invaluable experience for any aspiring, modern musician. I hold an Advanced DBS Certificate and have many testimonials and references (upon request).

Tutoring Approach:
