Personal Description:
I was born and grew up in Tokyo.
After having Bachelor and Master degree at the Tokyo National University for Music and Fine Arts, I had further study on Baroque violin in Amsterdam Conservatory in the Netherlands.
As well as active performing in ensemble, orchestra and as a soloist, I keep my passion for teaching because I was born in violin teacher family.
My grandfather, Saburō , was one of the prominent teacher in Japan who built the method in early 20th century which is still used widely. (It is not the Suzuki method but they have several correspondences in their approach).
Tutoring Experience:
I have been giving priva**Contact Detail Removed**ssons both in Tokyo and here in Leeds since 2015.
I have experiences for both children and adults, and especially good at teaching adult starters.
I have profound experiences in coaching orchestras and chamer music with several other instruments (at University of York, Leeds Baroque etc).
I also teach introduction for period instrument (baroque violin) and approach to baroque/classical repertoire for professionals and music students.
Tutoring Approach:
“Sing with your bow, Dance with your fingers!”!
I was born into a family of violin teachers, thus I have good materials and method from them, including;
-careful choice of repertory fitting to the student’s level.
-focusing on good ‘singing’ sound which is gained by good bowing technique.
-giving good direction for basic music theory and rhythmic.
Plus, I apply my knowledge and method from baroque violin playing:
-you can play with natural posture without any tension or pain in your body.
-you will obtain a good rhythmic sense based on baroque dances.
-and, It will give more flexibility on music making which encourages your individual musicality.
Through my lessons, I would like to deliver you a true-joy of music-making along with good basic techniques.
Adult beginners are very welcome!
It’s never too late to start learning something completely New.
I am very patient and flexible so can adjust your work schedule as much as possible.

She has been understanding of real life work issues getting in the way of practice, which can occasionally happen. Over the recent pandemic she was able to switch to video lessons and these were structured in a way that made them feel incredibly purposeful. In person or online I feel I have had the same experience.
Her choice of music to learn and develop my skills has ranged across quite a wide variety. This has always been well chosen to cater to my skills. Sometimes I have looked at a piece and thought that it was initially too difficult but after practising it and through Asuka's feedback I am always able to progress with every piece.
I would certainly recommend Asuka as a teacher.
An absolute pleasure to learn with - would undoubtably recommend to anyone looking to learn violin.
Asuka is easy to communicate with by text and email and very organised at planning ahead if lessons need to be re-scheduled . I would highly recommend her.
