Personal Description:
I am a post-graduate pianist studying for a Masters in Piano Performance at the Royal College of Music in London. I previously studied Music at the University of York. I have performed as a solo, chamber, and orchestral pianist throughout the UK. I won the concerto competition at the University of York as an undergraduate, and performed Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto with the UYSO in December 2019. I was awarded the ABRSM Diploma in Piano Performance with distinction, and took first prize in the Norfolk Young Musician competition 2018. I also have a passion for coaching and accompanying choirs, singers and instrumentalists.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught piano and music theory to students of all ages and abilities. I taught at Wells Cathedral School from 2020-21 as a Graduate Musician, coaching and teaching students from years 2-13 for their ABRSM and Trinity practical and theory exams. I taught piano to university-age students at York who achieved success in grades 5-8 and ABRSM diplomas. I am also able to coach students studying GCSE and A-level music through topics such as chorales and analysis.
Tutoring Approach:
My aim is to help students find the joy in learning about music, and to show them the rewards that this knowledge can bring to all aspects of their lives. I like to help people discover how the piano, or music in general, can fit into and enhance their other activities. Through piano tuition, I teach a healthy technique from the earliest stages, which enables quick and enjoyable progress to be made. I encourage calm and focused practice techniques, and provide musical context to the pieces my students are learning. I have a thorough knowledge of all common musical exam board grades and requirements, and will encourage these if the student is interested in pursuing them. However, this is by no means essential.
I mainly perform and teach classical piano to a professional standard, but also have much experience in pop/rock keyboard and piano styles and can teach these (supplemented by Rockschool examinations).
