Music has always been part of my life. After learning the piano and clarinet as a child, I took up the lever harp as a young adult. I became involved in the world of the harp, and especially with the harp tradition in Scotland and Ireland. I subsequently took an instrumental teaching diploma and began teaching. I enjoy performing and am part of a flute & harp duo, and a violin & harp duo. I am a member of the ISM (Incorporated Society of Musicians).
I have been teaching the lever harp for over 10 years. My students are of all ages from 6 upwards. I have taught the harp as a peripatetic teacher at a number of schools in Suffolk and Essex, and also have experience in teaching adults, some of whom had never learnt a musical instrument before taking up the harp.
I treat each student as an individual and teach them according to what they hope to gain from learning a musical instrument, whether that is for enjoyment, to perform, to play in an ensemble, or to work towards exams. I also teach music theory as necessary as part of the instrumental lesson.
I have a number of small harps available for loan or hire to beginners.
