Personal Description:

I teach beginner to Grade 8 violin in the Exeter area of the UK, specialising in adult tuition. Some of my students learned the violin as children and wanted to start playing again; others had never played before. Complete beginners are very welcome!

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching individuals and groups of students since 2010, and now also direct a number of string ensembles. I have an ABRSM Diploma (with Distinction) in violin teaching and a PGCE in music education. When I am not teaching, I play violin in the Devon Philharmonic Orchestra and the Lyric Chamber Orchestra. I am also a member of the European String Teachers Association.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching style is friendly and encouraging. I aim to help my students develop a good technique, as well as a love of learning and playing. I teach mainly across the classical and folk traditions, but I am very happy to help you explore any genre of music you would like. Some of my students choose to take graded examinations; others simply learn for pleasure.

I am available to teach mornings, afternoons and evenings on weekdays, and mornings and afternoons at weekends. Most of my students have a one hour lesson once a fortnight, although some have lessons weekly, monthly or on an ad hoc basis. Lessons take place face-to-face in my teaching studio, or online via Forte Music.
