Personal Description:

Hello! I'm a postgraduate violin student at the Royal College of Music. I've been playing the violin for 18 years, beginning in St Petersburg aged 4 before moving to the UK and joining my local youth orchestra. In my teenage years I started attending the Junior department at the Royal Academy of Music. I also played with the National Youth Orchestra for three years. I have deep love for music and the violin, and love to share this with others!

Tutoring Experience:

During my time at the University of York, I taught some other students. Mostly these were beginners, or students looking to get back into the violin after taking a long break. I also taught members of the orchestra, and other violinists looking for extra tuition in their preparation for recitals. I feel confident that I will be able to help you move towards any goals you may have with playing the violin! I also spent a year coaching a rowing squad and have spent some time tutoring maths in secondary schools, so I have some wider teaching experience.

Tutoring Approach:

First and foremost, playing and instrument should induce joy (at least most the time!), so I aim to build a good relationship with my students so I can understand their personal goals, and what keeps them motivated. This way hopefully we can start to make consistent progress!
On the technical front, I aim to teach technique that can support any level of playing one may go on to achieve. Especially for beginners, it is important not to get into bad habits early on in one's violin journey! But music is fundamentally about expression and fun, so I find it very important to not only guide my students in developing their musicality, but also challenge them when needed and discuss the music together. This way, I hope to successfully teach that technique and musicality are almost one in the same.
