Personal Description:
I am a full-time music teacher with over 25 years experience of teaching pupils of all ages and abilities. I can provide either online or face-to-face tuition. I have a BA degree with honours in music from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and a PGCE from Liverpool Institute of Higher Education. I also have advanced ABRSM grades in the piano, violin and music theory.
I am passionate about music and aim to help students to improve their playing and ultimately enjoy their instrument.
In my spare time, I enjoy walks in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside, and I like to immerse myself in a good book!
Tutoring Experience:
I was Head of music at three different secondary schools for a period of over ten years. I have taught class-room music to GCSE and A Level standard and conducted orchestras and choirs. I was also a peripatetic keyboard teacher.
In recent years I have been a full-time private tutor for the piano, violin and music theory. I enter many pupils for ABRSM and Trinity examinations and have achieved outstanding results. I offer mock exams to students who are entered for examinations.
As well as face-to-face tuition, I also have lots of experience of teaching on-line and have found this to be very successful.
Tutoring Approach:
All my lessons are tailored to the individual. I will firstly find out what the student requires and what specific needs they might have.
For those who prefer to learn solely for pleasure, I am able to provide music that is fun and easy to learn. For those students who want more of a challenge, I am able to provide suitable music.
I am also able to prepare students for examinations and I have had outstanding results. I have up-to-date knowledge of the syllabus' and the marking criteria for all the major exam boards including ABRSM and TRINITY. I will work on technique and will provide instructions on how to practise so that the student can perform all elements of the exam to the best of their ability.
I am also able to work with more nervous students in order to improve their confidence when performing.
