Information About Andy - Dunstable teacher

Personal Description:

I am a multi-skilled professional musician with nearly 30 years teaching experience. I have a genuine passion for young people and encouraging their musical potential. I specialise in both Jazz and Classical styles, but can also teach Pop.
I am fully CRB checked and have completed an up to date child protection course (Sept. 2022).

Tutoring Experience:

I have been running a successful private practice for nearly 30 years as well as teaching peripatetically in schools since 2003.
I have taught students of all ages, including adults, from beginner level through to Grade 8 and beyond (including Theory of Music) with a proven track record of success in achieving great results in Associate Board of Music examinations. I am also able to offer the full ABRSM Jazz Piano syllabus (grades 1-5).
I have an extensive library of Classical and Jazz arrangements and harmony tutorials developed to use with my students.

Tutoring Approach:

First and foremost, learning music has to be enjoyable! There is of course plenty of work and dedication involved if you want to become a great player, but this has to be fun and engaging. I always aim to make every single lesson lively, full of energy and humour, whilst still delivering expert craft, skills and knowledge.
I provide detailed notes for all my students to take home so that they can work through the salient points from each lesson.
With younger students, I also believe it is important to work with the parents/guardians so that they can support practice and development.
