Information About Andrew - Cheadle teacher

Personal Description:

After training as a classical/spanish guitarist at Leeds conservatoire I have been exploring different musical traditions including Carnatic Indian improvisation, folk music, jazz and pop.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching guitar privately for almost a decade and was formerly the head of rock and pop at the Redbridge Music Service, where I taught for for 5 years. I have also spent time working in secondary schools, assisting students with their GCSE and A levels, working with behavioural issues and providing music tech and theory lessons. I have experience working with students of all ages and interests.

Tutoring Approach:

I am geared towards helping guitarists to create an environment where playing music feels manageable, productive and fun. I believe that everyone has different needs and that my job is to try to support guitarists with those needs, to fully achieve their desires. If students wish to learn about music theory, I believe this is best achieved through becoming well acquainted with incremental, bitesized bits of information that link to the music that we play and listen to. I usually like to focus on what the guitarist wants to get out of our lessons, be that learning specific skills or repertoire, or gaining the confidence to get up and play in-front of friends. A large part of music making is emotional and mental so If these pose an issue for you, we can work out strategies to improve these too. I believe that overall it is important to be understanding, patient and respectful as a teacher.
