Personal Description:
I’m a multi award winning double bassist and bass guitarist living in Glasgow. I’m a very passionate teacher of music and I’m looking forward to welcoming new students to my teaching practice. I’ve won some awards which I’ve listed below:
- 1st prize 2018 European Society of Bassists jazz competition, Italy
- 2nd prize 2016 European Society of Bassists jazz competition, Czech Republic
- Leader of double bass section, NYOS 2008-2010
- Winner, 2009 BBC Radio Scotland Young Jazz Musician of the Year
I’ve toured and performed music across the world. I’ve performed bass guitar on west end touring shows and have recorded jazz and classical double bass on numerous recording sessions in London and Scotland.
Tutoring Experience:
Senior Lecturer of Jazz Bass - Leeds Conservatoire 2019 - present day
Part Time Lecturer - Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
Head of Jazz - St Mary’s Music School, Edinburgh 2018 - present day
I’ve given workshops and double bass masterclasses across the UK and Europe. I’ve worked as a tutor for NYOS NYJOS and NCO.
Tutoring Approach:
I like to have a balance of technical work and musical pieces to develop the students musicianship. I also like to factor in and subject that the student is interested in working on in our lessons together. I’m like to encourage my students to join a band, ensemble or orchestra if they’re aren’t already part of one.
