Information About Alison - Aberdeen teacher - (1 review)
This is how 2 referees rated Alison:
I am an experienced violin and viola teacher and player. I find teaching a very creative vocation, and love finding the right approach for each individual or group. I play both violin and viola professionally and in amateur groups, in orchestras, small ensembles and for folk and contemporary dance performances. I am a member of the European String Teachers Association and do regular vocational training with them and with other organisations.
I have been teaching violin and viola for twenty years, individually and in small groups. My pupils have ranged in age from 6 to 89 and played at all levels. Their backgrounds have ranged from adult professionals to young carers. I have plenty experience of helping pupils do well in exams and performances, and have also taught pupils who have no interest in exams, who want to play purely for pleasure, and take the learning in less conventional directions.
I believe learning the violin and viola can be rewarding at any age and level. Each student or group is treated as an individual, with approaches varying from working through exams to learning orchestral music to improvisation and learning by ear. I work closely with pupils and families to understand their motivation and aims. I enjoy researching ideas and methods to meet any needs that students may have. There is no requirement to come from a musical background: all that's needed is an interest in playing the instrument.
